The Litzsinger Road Ecology Center (LREC) is an established 34 acre nature educational site in central St.Louis county. The site and its staff are dedicated to promoting science teaching, learning environmental literacy, and stewardship of the Earth.
If you enjoy working with children and spending time outdoors, consider volunteering at the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center (LREC). Volunteer Educators are sought to lead and teach small groups of area students.
Managed by the Missouri Botanical Garden, LREC offers students hands-on opportunities to investigate and learn about nature in local settings, including woodland, prairie, and creek.
Free Volunteer Educator training begins mid September from 9:00 a.m. to 3 p.m. for ten consecutive weeks to mid November. During training, volunteers will become familiar with the site, learn inquiry-based, outdoor teaching strategies, and gain an understanding of basic ecology. Trainees will also have many opportunities to observe school groups and practice teaching.
More information on LREC visit www.litzsinger.org.
LREC also has opportunities to work with the grounds' horticulture restoration staff. The areas on the grounds are woodland, riparian corridor along Sugar Creek and native prairie. This is a great opportunity to learn about native plants, non-native invasives and plant propagation. Contact details are as above.
This situation is a 2011 MG trainee site.
