Our Master Gardener of the Year: Gary Hartman

This year’s Master Gardener of The Year, Gary Hartman, is one of the most prolific volunteers in our organization. He has volunteered nearly 3500 hours, averaging about 500 hours per year. He has served on the Master Gardener Advisory Committee, holding the office of Secretary for 3 years. Gary regularly volunteers at not one, but two botanical gardens – The Missouri Botanical Garden and Powell Gardens near Kansas City.

Gary’s specialty is water plants and he is the primary water lily volunteer at Powell Gardens and he is the primary volunteer in all the ponds at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Gary is solely responsible for growing water plants at the South Tech greenhouse that can be purchased at the St. Louis Master Garden Plant Sale in the Spring. Gary is truly one of a kind!
